In honor of the 92nd birth anniversary of the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the "Ramanathapuram Kalam Half Marathon" took place in the historic town of Rameswaram today Organized by the Ramanathapuram District Administration. This half marathon aims to commemorate the remarkable life and achievements of India's former President and globally acclaimed leader, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
This marathon comprises of 2 categories 21km and 5km with 500 members. ISRO Chairman S.Somnath flagged off the race. The 21km started by 05.00am and the 5km started by 06.00am from A.P.J.Abdul Kalam memorial. Winners in both categories also received medals and certificates to honour their achievements along with prize money worth Rs. 2,00,000/-.

In the 21 km men's category, Mr. Lakshmanan won the first prize of Rs.50,000, Mr. Vinod Kumar won the second prize of Rs.25,000, and Mr. Rangaraj won the third prize of Rs.10,000. In the women's category, Suganya got the first prize of Rs.50,000, Vijay Vaishnavi got the second prize of Rs.25,000 and Manonmani Ramnath got the third prize of Rs.10,000. In the 5 km men's category Mr. Mari Sarath won the first prize of Rs.10,000, Mr. Akhil Ram won the second prize of Rs.5,000 and Mr. Parisu Vasanth won the 3rd prize of Rs.10,000. In the women's category, Abisree won the first prize of Rs.10,000, Anitha won the second prize of Rs.5,000 and Lalitha won the third prize of Rs.3,000.
The Ramanathapuram Kalam Half Marathon is more than just a sporting event; it's a heartfelt tribute to a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on the world. The marathon will feature two race categories, catering to participants of varying age and fitness levels.
The primary objective of this marathon is to ensure that the present generation is aware of the extraordinary accomplishments and contributions of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. In addition to recognizing the winners, the marathon serves as a precursor to the celebration of Dr. Kalam's birthday in his native town in the years to come, providing a national platform to honor his memory.
