'Kalam Half Marathon' to be held on 15th October in Rameswaram

A grand marathon to be held in Rameswaram  On the occasion of the birthday of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on October 15. District Collector Mr. B. Vishnu Chandran said that the "Ramanathapuram Kalam Half Marathon" competition winners will get a total of Rs. 2 lakhs Cash Prize. Ramnad District Administration & Mr. Harsh Garg from Eight O Eight organisation has executed and promoted this marathon.

 Everyone from young to old can participate. The added highlight of this Marathon is that the specially challenged can also participate in this run.This marathon race is to be held in two categories namely 21 km and 5 km. The 21kms run will start by 6.00 am on October 15 at the memorial of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and goes through the Rameswaram National Highway up to the Pamban flyover. The 5kms run is planned to start by 6.30am from the memorial and go up to Thangachimadam and back.

The winners of 21kms in men and women category will each get Rs. 50,000 and second prize each Rs. 25,000 and third prize each Rs.10,000 each. The winners of 5kms in men and women category will each get Rs. 10,000, second prize each Rs. 5,000, third prize each Rs. 3,000 cash prizes. Also, the winners will be given a medal and certificate.

While talking about the marathon, District collector Mr. P. Vishnu Chandran said, “The goal of this competition is that the present generation should know the achievements of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. A total prize money of Rs.2 lakh is given to the winners of the competition. Now we are starting at the district level. This ceremony will be a forerunner for the celebration of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday in the future in his native, so that the nation can see it”.

As only 500 people are allowed in this marathon, reservations are essential for those who wish to participate in the event. 21 km. The booking fee for the 21kms Marathon is Rs.500 and the booking fee for the 5kms marathon is fixed at Rs.350. T-shirt, cap and protein food items will be provided to the participants.
