HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, under its CSR arm #Parivartan, announced the launch of its flagship initiative ‘Holistic Rural Development Programme’ (HRDP) in Tiruchirappali, Tamil Nadu. Under the initiative nearly 5750 acres of agricultural land will be restored through integrated soil and water conservation measures thereby increasing their productivity. The launch ceremony of the project was organised at Kottapatty Pudhur in Thoppampatty Panchayat, Manapparai Block, Tiruchirappali, Tamil Nadu. Jashti Ranga Rao, Operational Director, ASSIST, Dr. Ravi Vadlamani, President, ASSIST, M. Pradeep Kumar, IAS and Sreeja MR, CSR were present in the event.
The HRDP initiative aims to benefit 1400 families, over 7000 people across 15 villages in the district of Tiruchirappali over 3 years, from April 2024 to March 2027. The initiative also aims to increase irrigation efficiency, soil health management, develop a self-sustainable knowledge management system, introduce renewable energy through solar streetlighting, and strengthen 4 Government Anganwadi centres.
The Bank has partnered with ASSIST, a seasoned organization with extensive experience in water conservation projects since 1985 in the implementation of this initiative. ASSIST has successfully collaborated with notable agencies such as WATER-AID (UK), strengthening a network of NGOs focused on sustainable development. Holistic Rural Development Program (HRDP) is HDFC Bank’s flagship initiative which is designed to address critical environmental challenges by implementing integrated soil and water conservation measures.
