Muthoot Finance hands over 11 homes under Aashiyana Project to flood-affected families in Tamil Nadu

Muthoot Finance handed over 11 newly built houses on Monday to families affected by the December 2023 floods in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts through its CSR initiative. The initiative was carried out under the organisation’s Muthoot Aashiyana Project, which provides permanent housing support to families displaced by natural disasters.

Under the Aashiyana Project Muthoot Finance has so far invested Rs 21 crore towards building permanent homes for flood-affected families across India. The latest initiative in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts, involving the construction of 11 houses, was completed at a cost of Rs. 1 Crore.

Muthoot Finance also dedicated a compound wall at the DSP Office in Srivaikuntam, describing it as a gesture of appreciation for the police force’s role in maintaining law and order and protecting community assets.

The handover ceremony at Balaji Mahal Hall, Subramaniyapuram, was attended by Shri. George Jacob Muthoot, Chairman, The Muthoot Group of Companies, and Shri. George Muthoot Jacob, Deputy Managing Director, Muthoot Finance. Mr. Oorvasi S. Amirtharaj, MLA for Srivaikuntam, was present as the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

At the event Shri. George Jacob Muthoot, Chairman, said, “Our responsibility extends beyond financial services to building stronger, more resilient communities. Through our Aashiyana Project, we are helping families rebuild their lives with dignity after the trauma of natural disasters. Our aim is not just to provide shelter, but also to create a sense of security and stability for those who have lost everything. With each home we hand over, we hope to restore confidence and hope in affected communities.”

With the latest set of houses, the Muthoot Group said it remains focused on extending long-term rehabilitation support to communities affected by floods and other natural calamities. In FY25 alone, the Muthoot Finance spent Rs. 102.9 crore on CSR activities.

Muthoot Finance also runs several other flagship CSR programmes beyond housing. A significant portion, nearly 65% of the total CSR budget is allocated to education, through initiatives such as scholarships (Rs 1.34 crore in FY25), the Muthoot M George Excellence Awards, and skill development programmes.

Its healthcare efforts include dialysis and diabetic care centres, medical aid, and health awareness camps, while community-focused projects span clean drinking water initiatives, women empowerment programmes, and large-scale blood donation drives and disaster relief measures.
