Titan Company Limited, under its Sustainability (Pragati) initiative, in collaboration with Hosur Municipal Corporation and SIPCOT, has successfully rejuvenated the SIPCOT Hosur Lake, transforming a crucial urban waterbody into a vibrant ecological and social asset.The rejuvenation celebration featured the formal handover of the project by Titan Company Limited's Managing Director, C.K. Venkataraman, to the Chief Guests, Hon’ble Mayor of Hosur City Municipal Corporation, S.A. Sathya and Commissioner of Hosur City Municipal Corporation, Md. Shabbir Alam, IAS.
Spanning 10.5 acres with a 78.71-hectare catchment, SIPCOT Hosur Lake is connected downstream to Santhapuram Lake, which eventually drains into the Ponniyar River, making it a critical component of Hosur’s hydrological network. With the town receiving an annual rainfall of 750-800 mm, the lake plays an indispensable role in stormwater management, groundwater recharge, and sustaining the local water balance amidst growing industrial and residential demand.
As part of its Sustainability (Pragati) commitments, Titan Company Limited undertook the rejuvenation of SIPCOT - Hosur Lake under the Namakku Naame Thittam scheme, in co-operation with the Hosur Municipal Corporation (HMC) and SIPCOT. The project was executed by Surya Shakti Greenlands Pvt. Ltd. and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Limited (iDeCK).
Key outcomes of the restoration include tripling the lake's water-holding capacity from 5.6 crore litres to 17.1 crore litres and deepening it from 1.5 metres to 8 metres. The projects also adds structural enhancements such as bund strengthening and stone pitching were undertaken alongside developing a 950-metre walking and jogging track to foster community interaction. A 40,000 square foot Miyawaki forest island has been introduced to boost biodiversity, complemented by the planting of over 4,300 saplings to enhance greenbelt formation and ecological resilience.
Speaking on the occasion, C.K.
