Minister of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department K.Jegadeshwari has taken action to resolve the livelihood problems continuously faced by weavers in the Rajapalayam constituency. She personally met the concerned Department minister and appealed that an immediate solution should be provided to the issue.
Thousands of weavers in areas including Rajapalayam, Seithur, Dhalavaipuram and Punalveli are living depending on the handloom industry. The weavers have been continuously insisting on demands including fixing wages for the new variety of Pongal free sarees, providing relief for the period during which they lost work, and procuring the sarees accumulated in cooperative societies.
In connection with this issue, the weavers had already appealed to Rajapalayam constituency MLA and Minister of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department, K. Jegadeshwari.
Following this, with the aim of resolving the long-standing demands of the weavers, Minister Jegadeshwari, who had gone to Erode, personally met Handlooms and Textiles Minister Mr. Vijay Balaji and explained the demands of the weavers of the Rajapalayam constituency. In particular, she urged that steps should be taken to find an appropriate solution to issues including ensuring continuous employment for the weavers, fixing appropriate wages for the new variety of sarees, and procuring the accumulated sarees.
Minister K. Jegadeshwari, who has undertaken efforts to take the demands of the constituency people directly to the concerned department minister and find a solution, has assured that appropriate action will be taken soon on the demands of the weavers.
Handlooms and Textiles Minister Mr. Vijay Balaji, has assured that he will immediately discuss with the concerned department officials and take steps to resolve the problems of the weavers soon.
