Trichy Runs for Heart Health: Over 7000 Runners Turn Up for the 11th Edition of Kauvery Marathon Trichy

Kauvery Hospital, Trichy, successfully hosted the 11th edition of the Kauvery Marathon, bringing together over 7,000 runners in a strong show of support for heart health and active living. Organised ahead of World Heart Day, observed on September 29, the marathon was held under the theme ‘Run for Your Healthy Heart’.

The marathon comprised the 21.1 km Half Marathon, the 10 km Challenge Run, and the 5 km Fun Run, with a total prize money of 3 Lakhs awarded to winners across the categories. Prizes were distributed at Anna Stadium, Race Course Road, Kajamalai Colony, Trichy. The event brought together people of varying age groups and fitness levels, underscoring the importance of regular physical activity and proactive heart care.

The event was inaugurated with the flag-off of the 21.1 km Half Marathon by Mr. Anbuchezian, Facility Director, kauvery hospital, Trichy. The 10 km Challenge Run was flagged off by Thiru V. Balakrishnan, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Trichy, while the 5 km Fun Run was flagged off by Ms. Krithiga, IFS, District Forest Officer, Trichy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manivannan Selvaraj, Founder and Managing Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said, “Trichy has always held a special place in Kauvery’s journey - it is where our story began, and completing eleven editions of this marathon in the city means a great deal to us. Heart disease continues to be one of the major health challenges we face as a nation, yet many of its risk factors can be addressed through everyday choices, including staying physically active and being mindful of our health. ‘Run for Your Healthy Heart’ was built around this very idea to make heart health something people actively engage with, rather than something they think about only when they visit a doctor. Seeing thousands of people across different age groups participate with such enthusiasm is encouraging. It strengthens our commitment to creating platforms that bring communities together around prevention, fitness and overall wellbeing.”

From seasoned runners taking on the 21.1 km Half Marathon to first-time participants and families joining the 5 km Fun Run, the marathon offered an opportunity for people across fitness levels to come together for a common cause. Beyond the competition, the event sought to reinforce a simple but important message regular physical activity and preventive health practices can play an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health.

Over the years, the Kauvery Marathon has grown into an annual community initiative in Trichy, combining fitness with awareness around preventive healthcare. The enthusiastic participation in the 11th edition further reflected the community’s growing engagement with healthier and more active lifestyles.

This year’s Kauvery Marathon reaffirmed ‘Kauvery Hospitals’ commitment to promoting heart-health awareness and encouraging communities to make physical activity and preventive care a part of everyday life.
